Legacy 5k Run

& 1-Mile Walk

Why We Run

Allen wasn't just a businessman, he was a believer.

As an entrepreneur and civil servant in Bloomington, he served on the McLean County Board and became the first African American to own a franchise in the city. His wife Carolyn built her own legacy as the owner of the oldest Black-owned business in the city, Carolyn's Beauty Salon where community was woven into every visit.

But what drove Allen most was young people. Having watched his own two sons earn scholarships to Big Ten schools, he understood that talent alone isn't enough, students need support, guidance, and someone who believes in them. Over the years, Allen made it his personal mission to be that person, helping hundreds of students find a path to college.

The Allen and Carolyn Ware Foundation exists to carry that mission forward. We bridge the gap for students who need a little support, a little hope, and a sense of direction, because every young person deserves the opportunity to grow into who they're meant to be.

When you run with us, you run for them.
